Transition to the NEW 640-7 Backer Rod Insertion Tool

IT’S TIME TO UPGRADE

At Albion Engineering, we’re committed to continually improving our products while making it easier for our customers to do business with us. As part of that commitment, by the end of August 2026, we will be transitioning the 640-4 and 640-5 Backer Rod Insertion Tools to the 640-7 Backer Rod Insertion Tool.

The 640-7 combines the capabilities of both legacy models into one versatile tool, simplifying product selection while delivering the precision, consistency, and comfort professionals expect from Albion.

What This Means for You

As we complete this transition:

  • The 640-4 and 640-5 will be discontinued once existing inventory has been depleted.
  • Replacement parts will continue to be available to support customers currently using these tools.
  • The 640-7 will become Albion’s standard Backer Rod Insertion Tool, replacing both legacy models.

For distributors, this transition also simplifies inventory by replacing two SKUs with one, making product recommendations easier while offering customers Albion’s most advanced backer rod insertion tool.

Why the 640-7?

The 640-7 was designed to improve both ease of use and installation consistency.

Key features include:

  • Clearly marked wheel depth measurements in 1/8-inch increments for quick, accurate adjustments.
  • Precision indexing holes that securely lock the insertion wheel at the selected depth for repeatable results.
  • An ergonomic soft-grip handle that improves comfort and helps reduce hand fatigue during extended use.
  • An integrated Picatinny rail for mounting the optional LED Rechargeable Flashlight (1144-1) when working in low-light conditions.

A Smooth Transition

We are working closely with our distributors to ensure a seamless transition to the 640-7. If you’re currently using a 640-4 or 640-5, you can continue to rely on your existing tool, knowing that replacement parts will remain available.

If you have questions about the transition or would like assistance selecting the right replacement tool, please contact your local distributor or Albion representative.
